Narrow streets, the Market Hall and the river embankment: Elm Quarter is the city’s oldest district and still its busiest.
Most homes here are apartments, from converted merchants’ houses to new riverside buildings with lifts and garages. Everything is walkable: the Market Hall opens at seven, the concert hall is two streets away and Central Station connects to the rest of the country.
It suits people who want to live without a car and like having the city on the doorstep.
Worth knowing Summer evenings on the embankment can be loud.
